Devarayanadurga Temple, Tumkur

Travel Date: 2 Jan 2016

Devarayanadurga is a hill which is situated in Tumkur and has two popular temples. Devarayanadurga is located at a distance of 65 km from Bangalore.

The temple is said to be around 2000 years old. This temple’s architecture is in Dravidian style, faces east, constructed by Kanthirava Narasaraja I. The architecture is an example of Chola rulers’ patronage for art.

It is located inside the protected State Forest area. It is a wonderful day trip spot from Bangalore for the ones who enjoy nature.

For food and rest stop, there is a new restaurant 'Shree Rathnam' on Tumkur highway now, which i do not remember seeing 3 years back when we went.

Road conditions are pretty neat. We had a smooth drive. One piece of advice, this place is very lonely if you go out very early in the morning. People say, Sunrise is good here on a clear day. You can try catching Sunrise if you are getting as a big group. For families or small groups i would advice reaching there after 8:00AM - that's when the Temple opens.
